/setup > AutoMod.
What members notice
- An invite link to another Discord server is blocked before anyone sees it, with a short note saying why.
- If AutoMod blocks your messages several times in a short while (by default 3 times in 10 minutes), you get a short timeout (by default 10 minutes) and a DM with the reason.
The server’s own rules
The AutoMod page lists every AutoMod rule in the server: what it matches, what it does and what is exempt. Keyword lists show only as counts. The bot never changes these rules. Staff edit them in Server Settings > AutoMod, so changes made by hand there are never overwritten.Invite links
Block invite links creates one extra AutoMod rule, Block Invite Links (THG Community bot). It matchesdiscord.gg, discord.com/invite, discordapp.com/invite and dsc.gg links.
- Bot admins are exempt. Add more exempt roles or channels to the rule in Server Settings.
- When a mod log is set, Discord posts an alert there for each blocked invite.
- Because it is a native rule, it works even while the bot is offline.
- Stop blocking invites deletes the rule.
Timeouts for repeat offenders
The bot counts the messages AutoMod blocks for each member, from every rule. When a member reaches the limit within the time window, the bot times them out:
Each timeout is a normal moderation case, with the bot as moderator, a DM to the
member and a line in the mod log. Bot admins, server administrators and anyone above the bot’s role are
never timed out.
The bot needs Manage Server and Moderate Members. The AutoMod intent it uses is not privileged, so
nothing has to be switched on in the Developer Portal.
